Holy Communion

At First Congregational Church, we receive Holy Communion occasionally, including important days in the church calendar.

We alternate in worship between receiving Communion by intinction, an ancient practice of coming forward, taking the bread and dipping it in the cup and receiving both elements together, and passing trays with individual pieces of bread and individual cups through the pews.

For the bread, we use different kinds of bread, as well as rice cakes for those for whom wheat or gluten are problems.  For the cup, we use unfermented grape juice.

We practice an Open Table at First Congregational Church: All who wish to follow Jesus are welcome to receive Communion here.
