Cooking Class: King Cake
Back in 2020, we planned a series of cooking classes featuring dishes from our friends and members, but due to COVID, we had to cancel them after the first one. On Friday, February 3rd, we are bringing it back, starting with King Cake. Traditionally associated with Epiphany, these days it’s more generally connected with celebrating Mardi Gras.
We’ll be demonstrating King Cake two ways:
- Traditional Galette des Rois: An buttery puff-pastry with almond filling, cut into a circle.
- Mardi Gras King Cake: A sweet, yeast-based ring cake covered in icing and colorful sprinkles.
Classes will be the first Friday night of the month, starting at 6:30pm and running approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Registration is $25 per person per class, to cover the ingredients and kitchen supplies. Members and friends of the church are welcome, but space is limited. Please contact Matt or Amy Slot to register or if you have any questions.
These are hands-on classes designed for novice and experienced bakers alike. Come learn how to make a tasty treat, have fun with friends, sample what we’ve made, and best of all, we’ll handle all of the kitchen prep and clean up! When you leave, you’ll take home the class recipes, all the treats you made, and a great story to share with your friends.
