First Congregational Church is committed to it’s mission statement, “…challenged by our faith to reach out to our congregants, our community and world family . . .” We are active in many mission projects in our community and beyond. A few examples include:
Heifer International: Through special offerings and fundraisers, we work through Heifer International to help lift families around the world out of poverty and help end hunger. More about Heifer is available here.
Local Outreach: We actively support our local homeless/domestic violence shelter, clothing and furniture bank, hospice, New Beginnings Pregnancy Center and other groups providing needed services. A Shoebox ministry provides games, treats and toys to SIREN/Eaton Shelter and Eaton Clothing and Furniture Center to distribute to children for spring break activities.
Spring Cleanups: Coordinated by our Outreach board, many church members work in teams for the spring picking up, carrying and stacking, raking and even some chain saw work to get the debris into manageable piles for our church families. Thank you OUTREACH!
Eagles Community Dinners: are sponsored by FCC making food contributions, cooking and serving a meal at the local Eagles club. Watch for a date on our next dinner. Help is always appreciated.
A Summer Reading program, Charlotte Home and Business Expo, Celebrate Charlotte Days, Nordic Fire Festival, CARA Trash Walk, Courthouse Square Summer Concerts are all local activities that we support often by providing food or opportunities for our church family to contribute and participate in these local causes.
Brown Bag gifts of non perishable food is collected during worship in the fall, and contributed to local charities: Helping Hands and Siren/Eaton Shelter. The brown bags are handed out mid November and contributions collected the following Sunday, but a basket, located under the mailboxes in the main church building, is available year round for non-perishable food donations.
White Bag gifts of personal care and paper good items are collected during worship in the Advent Season. These bags are handed out early December and contributions collected the following Sunday. As with the non-perishable food, personal care and paper good items are gladly accepted any time of the year.
Adopt a Family is sponsored and gift needs coordinated by our Outreach Board each year at Christmas time.
Mitten Tree and Winter Coat collection occurs during the Christmas season; we partner with many of the local clothing banks. If you have something to donate, contact our office.
Special Mission Offerings are special offerings we support from the UCC conference. They are missions in our local church or for the wider UCC missions. One Great Hour of Sharing, Strengthen the Church, Neighbors in Need, The Christmas Fund, and Our Churches Wider Missions for international support are five specific projects.
Crop Walk, held in Charlotte one Sunday in October is well supported by our church.
Thru UCC Global Ministries we sponsor two children each year.
For our church members we host informational meetings like Habitat for Humanity, provide coffee hour treats, correspondence to those on the prayer list, and other personal contact for life situations as well as supporting the Prayer Shawl Ministry program that is active in our church.
