Lent begins on Wednesday, March 6 this year and the “Church as Educators” group has a challenge for you: On the Sunday before the start of Lent we will be distributing a large plastic bag along with an instruction sheet to those who wish to take on the “Forty Days – Forty Items” challenge. Each day of Lent we invite you to remove one item that you no longer wear or need from your closet or from around your house and put it into this bag. As you do this, you might want to say a prayer of thanksgiving for one of the blessings in your life or for the next person who will be able to use this item.

At the end of the 40 days of Lent you can donate the bag of items to the charity of your choice or bring it back to First Congregational Church on Easter Sunday (or the Sunday after) and lave it in the lounge and we will take it to the Eaton Clothing and Furniture Center.

Through this activity we hope you will fee you have lightened your load, both spiritually and physically. You also will be sharing your earthly and spiritual resources, caring for the poor and helping protect the environment. We hope you will join us in the Forty Days — Forty Items challenge this year.
